Abstract

Surgical diseases of the adrenal gland have attained a growing importance in urology. Here,
important adrenal diseases in surgical aspect, such as Cushing¢¥s syndrome, primary aldosteronism, adrenogenital syndrome and pheochromocytoma, are briefly described in relation to classification, symptom and sign, laboratory findings, diagnostic methods, and treatment. Among them primary aldosteronism is emphasized and discussed in more detail, because this syndrome may represent one of the most substantial causes of hypertensive vascular disease, and offers the urologic surgeon an opportunity to cure a dangerous form of hypertension and correct a deranged homeostatic mechanism in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.
